Private Midwife and HypnoBirthing Practitioner
Shellanda Eller
Hi, my name is Shellanda Eller, creator and founder of Birthing Mum.
I am a Private Midwife and HypnoBirthing International accredited practitioner, I’m passionate about assisting birthing mums to have a positive, well-informed and supported experience. My journey in supporting mothers started over 25 years ago when I worked as a nanny and provided newborn support services. After having my own two children, I trained as a Doula and then completed further study graduating in 2015 as a Registered Midwife and also trained in HypnoBirthing the Mongan Method. Recently completed my prescribing course at Edith Cowan University to meet APHRA requirements to become a Private Practice Midwife
I have been working in the home birth space since the end of 2021 and am now able to offer Private Midwife services. Before moving into private practice I worked for many years I worked in the public sector at a tertiary hospital. Predominantly in the birth suite, maternity assessment unit, providing maternity inpatient care for antenatal and postnatal women, newborn discharge baby assessments and breastfeeding support.
I love working as a Midwife. However, I observed that most women are not adequately educated prior to birth, and receive limited support postnatally, which lead me to create Birthing Mum.
Lactation Consultant
Christine
Hi, my name is Christine. Im a endorsed midwife, lactation consultant, and mother with a passion for supporting women on their breastfeeding journey. Shellanda has invited me to be part of her team to ensure women have access to a lactation consultant throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey. If you have chosen one of the Midwifery Care packages, I’ll see you during pregnancy to help you prepare for breastfeeding and again in the postpartum period to offer guidance, make any necessary adjustments, or simply provide encouragement. I am also part of the monthly Mum and Bubs Circle, creating a supportive space for mothers to connect, share, and learn.

The Gold Coast is fortunate to have a close-knit, woman-centered network of private midwives providing exceptional care. When choosing to birth at home with a midwife, it is a requirement to have two midwives in attendance. Second birth attendant is known as ‘Second Midwife’. They usually arrive towards the end of labor to provide additional support to the primary midwife during the birth, and helps clean up after the birth. This allows your midwife is suporting you settle into your bed, so your can bond and connect with you baby and partner. Birthing Mum collaborates with a number of endorsed midwives in the community if you would like a midwife not on the list please just let us know and we can reach out to them.
